Time to log off?

February 22, 2010

No, no, no devoted readers, this is not the end of the WhatWouldGwynethDo diatribe, it’s really only the beginning.

And you know I would never shut down the iPhone/laptop/voice mail. We’ve covered that obsession already.

I am, however, seriously considering a reorg of my email inbox.

Every day it is flooded with work-related newsletters — I have to glance over every Candy, Daddy, PR-related item that comes my way to stay on my game. Fine. I auto-delete anything from Facebook or Twitter, I have a close enough eye on them already. And I long ago started ignoring the Babycenter “This Week Your Baby is…” emails. While I lived and breathed by them the first year, making sure Little D’s every bump, burp and baby-ism was right on schedule, now we have our own road map to follow, and it doesn’t require a weekly “how to mother” pit stop (thank god).

Although I have managed to turn my brain’s filter up to high when it comes to all of the above, there is a whole other category of “junk” email that still seems to shine like gold in my inbox each morning.

Gilt Groupe, Billion Dollar Babes, Rue La La…they beckon my name with their catchy little subject lines — CHANEL Jewelry, Marc Jacobs, J Brand. And try as I might to fight it, the click-through rate is astounding. I click and I click and I click.

“How to tell if your 2-yr old is going to be reading before her peers?” Yawn. Delete. But a sale on La Mer? Now that, apparently, is required reading in this inbox.
