The golden ticket

May 26, 2010

Willy Wonka may have offered one into a world of sugar-coated delights. The California Lottery just offered one up for $266 million to a lovely little couple from Pico Rivera (will need to Google Map that one of these days). But I’ve got my golden ticket right here, baby. A round-trip flight, cross-country, SANS kid.

Don’t get me wrong, we all know how much I love traveling, shopping, eating, breathing, everything with Little D, but when darling husband and I collectively decided the whole family could not venture back to Montreal for a wedding this weekend, my sleep-deprived mama brain had a lightbulb moment: what. if. i. went. alone???

40,000 air miles and one first-class booking later — if mama’s gonna ride solo, she’s gonna ride in style — I am now less than 24 hours away from the great escape and couldn’t be giddier.

Checking in without a stroller, three carry-ons and a toddler in tow. Stopping at Starbucks and skipping the milk and madelines (well, maybe I will skip the madelines). Sitting at the gate, quietly, in wait. Reading. Watching the movie on the plane. Eating my meal before it gets cold.

I don’t even care about the trip at this point, it’s the traveling that’s got me glowing. Even the 6am departure time can’t dampen my mood. I, my friends, have the golden ticket, and it’s going to be 35,000 ft above heavenly.

Insert contented sigh here.

But who am I kidding? I will bring home the warm cookies for Little D.

All my bags are packed...I'm ready to go...
