The Comfort Zone

October 5, 2011

It’s cold and rainy and windy outside but inside I am thinking warm and fuzzy. Not physical comfort, specifically, though crawling under my duvet for the rest of the day doesn’t sound terrible, but the emotional and intellectual comfort we find in little things and occurrences throughout the day. Some things warming my heart and soul this week:

A long overdue dinner with an old friend. And feeling like not a day has passed.

Holding hands with my husband. While watching TV.

My son’s mischievous smile as he crawls up the stairs for the 40th time this morning.

My sister calling with exciting career news. Hearing the joy in her voice.

The 80’s on 8 on Sirius that carried me home on a long dark drive last night. And singing along. Loudly.

Watching my daughter run up and down the beach after dark with her friends. We were there to see the bioluminescence and its effect on our local waves. They were there to be kids.

Feeling tired and worn out this morning and having five minutes to lean on my mom’s shoulder. Literally. I leaned.
